  • Selling a completely restored – 100% rust free never wrecked (clean Carfax) 1988 Toyota Supercharged MR2 in Super white with custom Black / red leather interior. This build has a long history dating back almost 30 years. After buying my first AW11 I was instantly in love with the car. I always dreamt about how I could build the best MR2 ever, so I started buying and collecting the best and most sought after parts ever made for an AW11. It started with buying a brand new OEM interior in black. Center console, radio bezel, sill plates and more. This car came to me when by chance, a fellow in Virginia that I had done business with reached out and asked if I wanted his rust free rolling shell of an 88 SC. It had 121K on the clock – but no drivetrain was to be included. I jumped at the chance, drove down to Virginia and dragged this very clean AW11 back home. The car I picked up was in fantastic condition so I decided to pour everything I had into it. I selected a well-established local body shop that agreed to take on the complete re-work and paint job of my car. All glass and moldings were pulled as well as the interior. The body was refinished in original Toyota 040 Super White while the roof, pillars, mirrors and moldings were painted in Toyota 202 Black Onyx. The list of modifications on this car are lengthy and most parts are special order, very expensive and/or completely unavailable.
    Drivetrain:
    Completely stripped and rebuilt 4A-GZE. Bored .5mm over with brand new OEM pistons, ACL main and rod bearings, piston rings and brand new freeze plugs. Top measured and checked for trueness.Head completely disassembled – ported and polished (medium) HKS valve springs, HKS 264 intake and exhaust cams, OEM shim less buckets (to remove mass from the rotating assembly – vs having to adjust valve lash with shims on top of lifters), all new valve guides (intake and exhaust) valve stems seals, cam seals and valve cover gaskets. Measured and checked for trueness. All machine work performed by APEX Automotive Engineering in Bensenville, IL. Brand new OEM engine wiring harness, head gasket, timing belt, timing belt tensioner, crank pulley, ARP head bolts, all necessary gaskets and O-rings 100% OEM, as well as brand new OEM water pump, oil pump, oil pan, HKS crank pulley and all piping / valve covers stripped, cleaned and powder coated. Also brand new OEM are the belt tensioner pulleys. Belts are brand new OEM as well. Distributor completely disassembled and re-built along with new OEM cap and rotor. New OEM plugs and original plugs wires. HKS super mega flow air intake (long since unavailable for the AW11 and complete with original box) and HKS twin power ignition module (also with original box). All coolant and vacuum hoses are brand new OEM or red silicone. OEM catalytic converter and the very rare cat-back HKS exhaust AS WELL AS THE TRD SC stainless header. All engine hardware is original and spent 2000+ hours in tumblers being cleaned up and refinished for a true OEM fit and proper torque spec. SC12 was pulled from a running 88 SC with 71K on it and has a brand new clutch stator and fresh Toyota SC oil in it. Brand new OEM radiator and condenser. Brand new TRD engine and transmission mounts with TRD bushing kit. Suspension Techniques front and rear sway bars (powder coated red) with all related hardware. New steering rack bushings, along with front and rear lower arm bushings. New front and rear sway bar links (high & tight stainless) all four lower ball joints replaced with OEM Toyota pieces and all four spindles have been disassembled, painted and pressed with brand new OEM wheel bearings and related parts. Cusco front and rear (GZE specific) tower strut braces. New tie rod ends. The car now rides on TODA FIGHTEX Coil overs (took 8 months to get) with custom ordered spring rates for a firm but street able ride paired with special ordered WORKS Meister S1R – 2 piece wheels complete with chrome Meister center caps (took 7 months to get) with gloss black inserts and chrome polished barrels sporting Bridgestone Potenza RE11’s 205/45/16 fronts (16 x 7) and 235/40/17 rears (17 x 8). The rear brake calipers were re-built using an OEM rebuild kit and painted red. The fronts are a custom AP racing setup designed and commissioned by WC Engineering. You cannot get these anymore and it’s a shame because they are the BEST brake kit ever designed for this car! Stainless steel brake lines at all four corners. Brand new OEM emergency brake cables are also installed.
    Transmission rebuilt by Libertyville Toyota using OEM synchros and axle seals with completely re-built drive axles including new cages, bearings, inner and outer CV boots. RARE TRD Kevlar clutch. Speed-Source solid shift cable bushings. Super rare TRD short shift kit (original box included). Redline MT-90 fluid inside.
    Body:
    Side moldings were removed prior to paint and not replaced for a cleaner look. All trim moldings on the car are brand new, OEM pieces including windshield top, left and right A pillars, quarter glass and belt moldings and the rear 3-piece moldings that have since been re-made but are never-the-less not as good of a fit as the original parts. Rear window gasket is new OEM. All original VIN tags are intact with the exception of the front fenders.  The original fenders were pulled in favor of an authentic set of Japanese market AW11 fenders which were installed for the perfect side maker fitment. Original Toyota J-Spec side markers are properly placed and wired. I still have the original fenders with matching VIN plates. They are NOT included with the sale of this car. Brand new, J/Euro spec front marker light assemblies were installed in the front bumper to compliment the side markers with clear lenses to complete the look. New OEM eyelids were installed under the headlights and the side skirts and air intake were also repainted and installed with brand new gaskets and OEM hardware. Proper 89 painted door handles as well as an 89 LED spoiler are installed. Brand new OEM mud flaps have also been installed and have hand pained letters to make them stand out. Headlight bezels are also brand new OEM parts. Headlights have been upgraded to an LED style for better night vision and looks. Front lower 2-piece valance was replaced with brand new OEM parts including all new OEM mounting hardware (brackets and bolts / nuts). Likewise, both the rear and front bumper covers are new OEM parts and were refitted with brand new OEM brackets which have long been discontinued. The muffler heat shields were in perfect condition so I cleaned them up and painted them as well as the hardware. New front and rear trunk OEM gaskets as well as new OEM T-top seals. Upgraded horns so people will hear you if you need them to. Window regulator motors have upgraded gears in them (so no broken teeth now… or down the road) and the original door vapor barrier seals were reused due to their excellent condition.
    Interior:
    The interior is an absolute work of art. Almost every part in the interior was a brand new piece and I have MOUNDS of receipts dating back 20+ years to prove it. Center console, seat belt assemblies, radio bezel, door sill plates, instrument cluster surrounds and top piece… too much to list. The interior sports a custom set of black leather covers with red inserts and offset red stitching. The door cards have matching leather inserts and a MOMO top power steering wheel to match. An original OEM black leather shift knob and emergency brake handle rounds things off. T-top shades and brand new OEM T-top bags are included with the car. The masterpiece is the sound system. Early 2000’s top of the line Pioneer head unit with remote that has internal memory feeds into a 5 channel FOCAL amplifier located in the front trunk that powers two 10” pioneer subwoofers custom fabricated under each seat as well as 4” Focal K2 component speakers in the dash complimented by 1” matching tweeters custom fabricated into the door mirror triangles. In lieu of the center storage bin is another pair of FOCAL K2 components speakers measuring 5.25 inches enclosed in a custom fabricated console wrapped in black “pleather” with red offset stitching to match the interior perfectly. The original boxes to all stereo components are included with the sale of the vehicle as well as the extra pair of tweeters that I opted not to use. Brand new OEM power antenna is installed and fully functional. The front trunk is finished with backlit LEDS to show off the amplifier and crossovers… and on top of it all is a laser etched replica of the MR2 Crest in thick plexi-glass that lights up when the stereo is powered up. Vehicle is being driven sparingly around town to keep her fresh. I have LOTS of pictures detailing the entire build spanning years. A binder with all relevant receipts, paperwork on parts, etc goes with the car. The new engine has just over 400 miles it and has had the oil changed 3 times. About 300 of those miles are since the car was completed. Vehicle has clean Illinois title but is currently resides in Meridian, Idaho. Shipping is up to the buyer.
